Trumps thoughts on climate change and why it isn’t true.
By: Ammon Zerkle
Donald Trump in Hilton head, South Carolina, said that the concept of global warming Is a hoax. This claim was made in a campaign rally on Dec. 30 2015, it was reported by the Kansas City Star. He said in his speech “So Obama’s talking about all of this with the global warming and the — a lot of it’s a hoax, it’s a hoax. I mean, it’s a money-making industry, OK?”
So is global warming a hoax, as Donald trump said, or is it a real problem that we are facing today? We have seen what Trump said, now let us look at the facts of the issue.
The New York Times tells us that the English city of Carlisle has experienced record downpours and flooding in the last 10 year. A record flood in the year 2005 one that was supposed to happen only once every 200 years, however one happened 4 years ago and one that happened last winter. One of its river grew to 30 times the size of the year before and an estimated 10 million gallons of water flooded the biggest employer and many different schools. A scientist at Nottingham said that frequent storms and super storms like that are exactly what you would expect in a warming climate.
The image shows the average temperature change from 1880 to 2015 and was pulled from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming

An article in the New York Times said recently a ship traveling on its maiden voyage over the Northwest passage found a ship that had been lost for 170 yrs. Ice back then had been so thick that it had trapped that ship and one other where today it was smooth sailing all the way. Due to global warming the ice has melted so much that people on the ship were actually looking for ice instead of actively avoiding it. Back in the day of the Terror and the Erebus (2 ships found sunk in the ice) people had to fight against the ice and almost no one went there. With the advent of global warming and the melting of the ice, tourism in that area has skyrocketed.
An article from CNN talked about how hurricane Matthews was a lot like how storms look like if we have climate change. last year was the warmest our oceans have ever been and that much heat gives the storm the energy it needs to grow to disproportional levels. The heating up of earth the melting of ice and expanding oceans create higher risks of storm surges
The EPA states that Carbon dioxide levels are the highest they have been in almost a million years, average temperature of the earth has risen to an all-time high, the ocean has warmed,  fish have migrated north and to deeper water, and increase in temperature and later frost increases the length of allergy season
An article in the international journal of plant production talk about how climate change affected the amount of rice grow by farmers in the Himalayans. It said how following history that says that a growth in temperature of about 1 degree Celsius would boost the amount grown by the field, they determined that the temperature of the mountains had grown by about that much and that the food production had been boosted by a growth in temperature. It also said that the production of wheat had changed over the last 24 years increasing over the years.

Trump claims that Global warming is a hoax and it isn’t real, as we have read so far that is not true. First off, the increase in flooding in cities by the coast tells us that it is a real thing and not a hoax, Second, the melting of polar ice is another fact that proves that it is a real thing, and lastly the warming of the ocean and the more violent storms in the world today are another fact that shows that it is a real thing and not a hoax as Donald Trump said. Trump needs to face the facts of the matter and listen to what science says. Climate change is a real thing facing the world today and is an issue that should be talked about and not ignored because it is not a hoax, it is reality.
